But let\u2019s look at it from a new point of view: come with me!   <\/p>\n<p>In corporate ecosystems of greater complexity and in business environments that are increasingly digitized, information architecture should not be seen as a simple organizational layer in interface development. For example, specifications such as &#8220;aluminum,&#8221; &#8220;glass,&#8221; or &#8220;silicon.&#8221; <\/li>\n<li><strong>Activities:<\/strong> processes, actions, or operations performed. In the web environment, they represent interactions such as &#8220;buy,&#8221; &#8220;review,&#8221; &#8220;compare,&#8221; and &#8220;share.&#8221; <\/li>\n<li><strong>Events:<\/strong> occurrences or phenomena situated in time, such as &#8220;Black Friday,&#8221; &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/semantico.com.br\/blog\/curso-seo-semantico.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SEO Course<\/a>,&#8221; or &#8220;Campaign Launch.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Properties:<\/strong> characteristics, states, or qualities inherent to an object. It can be size, primary color, exact weight, or storage capacity. <\/li>\n<li><strong>Disciplines:<\/strong> areas of study or broad branches of knowledge. Work together with your systems or software development team and you\u2019ll be able to create a cutting-edge search or product recommendation system. <\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Similarity and Dissimilarity Criteria: The Strategic Impact on Data Retrieval<\/h4>\n<p>Before moving forward, I need to address these two concepts from the point of view of Information Science. We need to understand that the concepts of similarity and dissimilarity are part of the foundations of organization, retrieval, and representation of information. They are not merely subjective perceptions, but a practical way that allows systems (human or artificial) to identify relationships between documents, <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Palavra-chave\" href=\"https:\/\/semantico.com.br\/blog\/en\/Vocabulario\/palavra-chave\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0221\/entity\/palavra-chave\">terms<\/a>, or entities.  <\/p>\n<p>So I present a technical and reflective definition of these two concepts:<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"similarity\"><\/span>Similarity<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Similarity is the degree of correspondence, proximity, or affinity between two informational objects. In Information Science, it is often treated from two perspectives: <\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Structural similarity:<\/strong> focuses on the form or physical occurrence of elements (e.g., two articles that share the same keywords).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Semantic similarity:<\/strong> focuses on meaning. It occurs when two terms or documents address the same concept, even if they use different languages or terms (synonymy). <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mathematically, similarity is frequently calculated in a <strong>vector space<\/strong> (<em>does it remind you of how AI models work?<\/em>), in which documents are represented by vectors. The failure to define and isolate these criteria generates immense algorithmic &#8220;noise,&#8221; harming crawlers and severely degrading search precision. <\/p>\n<p><strong>But let us clarify these complicated concepts.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I often say that an e-commerce without a clear distinction between what <strong>a product is<\/strong> and what <strong>a product represents<\/strong> is merely a digital warehouse, not a sales strategy.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s use an example of a high-demand insulated bottle (like a Stanley or similar). Imagine we are organizing this store\u2019s taxonomy and semantics: <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"the_intrinsic_view_the_ontology_of_the_object\"><\/span>The Intrinsic View (The Ontology of the Object)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Here, the group is formed by the similarity of what the object actually is. It does not matter who buys it or for what purpose. <\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Characteristics:<\/strong> stainless steel, vacuum insulation, 500 ml capacity, screw-on lid.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Logical grouping:<\/strong> kitchen &gt; containers &gt; thermal bottles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"the_extrinsic_view_user_perception_and_application\"><\/span>The Extrinsic View (User Perception and Application)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Here, physical dissimilarity is ignored in favor of functional similarity. Here, it is a productivity and status accessory. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In my professional experience, I have noticed that the common mistake is trying to force the user to think only in ontology (intrinsic). If your customer wants &#8220;gifts for adventurous fathers,&#8221; they do not want to navigate through &#8220;stainless steel > 500 ml.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>If information architecture does not reflect this user cognitive load\u2014who searches by <strong>use<\/strong> and not by <strong>raw material<\/strong>\u2014the internal search system fails, NLP can\u2019t connect the dots, and conversion plummets.
