documents
A document is any record of information, regardless of the format or medium used to record it. Established by archival science, the above definition is general in nature, meaning that certain sciences or some of their specialized branches may adopt more specific definitions. This is the case, for example, in Law, where a document is defined as any written instrument or paper, public or private, that has legal relevance and can serve as evidence. Typical documentation institutions are museums, archives, and libraries, each with its own peculiar characteristics.
