Hypertext Transfer Protocol

The Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) is a communication protocol used for information . Its use for obtaining interconnected resources led to the establishment of the World Wide Web .

Coordinated by the World Wide Web Consortium and the Internet Engineering Task Force, it culminated in the publication of a series of Requests for Comments; most notably RFC 2616, from June 1999, which defined HTTP/1.1.
