Computing

Informatics is a term used to describe the set of sciences related to the storage, transmission, and processing of information in digital , including: computer science , information theory, the calculation process, analysis , and the theoretical methods of knowledge and problem modeling.

But informatics can also be understood as the science that studies the set of information and knowledge through digital means. The term informatics, being defined in dictionaries with the same broad meaning on both sides of the Atlantic, assumes in Portugal the meaning synonymous with computer science, while in Brazil it is usually used to specifically refer to the process of information processing by means of electronic machines defined as computers.

Information Technology and Information

The study of information began in mathematics when figures such as Alan Turing , Kurt Gödel , and Alonzo Church started to study what types of problems could be solved, or computed, by human elements following a series of simple instructions, regardless of the time required.

The motivation behind this research was the advancement during the industrial revolution and the promise that machines could one day solve the same problems faster and more efficiently. Just as industries handle raw materials to transform them into a product , algorithms were designed so that one day a machine could process information.
