Interactivity

Interactivity is a concept that is almost always associated with new media.

Interactivity can be defined as: "a measure of the potential ability of a medium to allow the user to exert influence over the content or form of mediated communication."

However, there is also the sociological perspective of the term, which would be: "the relationship between two or more people who, in a given situation, adapt their behaviors and actions to each other."

Interactivity is not a term commonly found in dictionaries.

The only reference found was in the Oxford English Dictionary, which states:

  • a) An activity that involves interaction;
  • b) The property of being interactive.

This dual application of the word is significant and deserves investigation.
