Semiotics

Semiotics (from the Greek σημειωτικός – literally, “the optics of signs”), is the general science of signs and semiosis that studies all cultural phenomena as if they were sign systems, that is, systems of signification. Both terms are derived from the Greek word σημεῖον (sēmeion), which means “sign”, and since antiquity there has been a medical discipline called “semiology”.
