“The Semantic Web is not a separate Web, but an extension of the current one. In it, information is given a well-defined meaning, enabling better interaction between computers and people.” With these words, Berners-Lee (2001) defines the plans of his working group at the World Wide Web Consortium* (W3C) to carry out the transformation that will modify the Web as we know it today. “Semantic Web” (Decker et al., 2000 & Berners-Lee et al., 1999) is the generic name of this project, led by the W3C, which intends to embed intelligence and context in the XML codes used for creating Web pages, in order to improve the way programs can interact with these pages and also enable more intuitive use by users.
